KEN RYE
Vice President of Marketing

Ken Rye is a 20 marketing and communications veteran with extensive experience in also in jazz/ soul radio. His first exposure to radio came from working at WCGI-AM/FM in Chicago where he had the opportunity to learn under the shadows of the fly-jock Tom Joyner, Doug Banks, station manager Marv Dyson and a host of other pioneers in the radio industry. Upon coming to Atlanta in 1988 to attend Morehouse College, he landed a job on WCLK-FM where for 10 consecutive years he held multiple on-air positions including morning drive and co-hosting a series of “acid jazz,” fusion and live music programming like Groove Gumbo and Friday Night with partner in crime Ken Batie.

During his on-air tenure, Rye with business partner Ken Batie and protégé Jamal Ahmad took great pride in being among the first to commit the music of Omar, D-Influence, Ronny Jordan, Outside, Soul II Soul, Caron Wheeler, Swing Out Sister and other U.K.-based artists in the mix with classic soul artists like Donny Hathaway, Gil Scott Heron, Grover Washington, Jr., Bob James and more. In addition, non-stop grinding in nightclubs and local supper clubs, the team frequently promoted their own shows or hosted those brought in town by BG Swing Productions with Munson Steed, Chocolate Soul Entertainment with Will G and other independent promoters making the music more visible while driving on-air ratings and listener contributions.

It was with the live shows and non-stop industry relations, that Rye and Batie helped integrate the radio presence with live performances on stages that included artists like Incognito, Roy Ayers, Maysa Lek, Maceo Parker, India.Arie, Donnie, Roy Ayers and so many more. On his more corporate-side experience, work with companies and clients like MediaOne and Verizon his influences expanded to projects that included the launch of BET on Jazz in Atlanta and Angie Stone’s Soul Beach Music Tour. Rye’s latest venture is hoticeonline.com with partner Ken Batie that is a start-up internet radio site with high expectations for e-commerce and artists profiles for all funky forms of music.
